Ready to Launch!

12th Nov 2024
Our Primary 6 and 7 children completed a fantastic STEM challenge yesterday afternoon to celebrate World Science Day! They were delighted when they realised they were going to make their own catapults out of basic household items and test the power of the catapult outside in the playground!
We used lollipop sticks to create a fulcrum and a launch pad, with a plastic spoon being the weapon of choice for launching our items, tying everything together with elastic bands. We had a great discussion about why we need a fulcrum, and how changing the structure of the catapult can change the effectiveness of the launch. We discussed why heavy/light items travel at different speeds and we tested our theory afterwards. It got very competitive with lots of laughs and fun along the way!
