Defibrillator installed for Public Usage at Derrylaughan Kevin Barry’s GAC

A public-accessible Automated External Defibrillator (AED) is located on the exterior wall to the front of our clubrooms. AEDs are used to treat sudden cardiac arrest, a condition in which the heart suddenly stops beating.  Our AED has also been registered on the National Defibrillator Network – ‘The Circuit’ which connects defibrillators to NHS ambulance services so that in those crucial moments after a cardiac arrest, they can be accessed quickly to help save lives and where the emergency services operator can despatch an ambulance and remain on the line to assist with operational instructions.   Whilst it is hoped it will never have to be used, the AED is accessible to the public 24 hours a day, seven days a week. In the case of a cardiac arrest emergency, you should call 999 immediately, and if directed to the club’s AED, the ‘999’ operator will give you the combination code to unlock the AED cabinet. Defibrillators are easy to use, and the machine will provide clear spoken instructions – it won’t shock someone unless they need it. Even with no signal, you can still attempt to call 999, as your phone will search for any available network, even if it’s from a different provider.     DKB serving the community
