Daily Mile
This year in Aughamullan we have introduced the 'Daily Mile' intiative, which sees children run/walk a mile every day at school. In the morning before class begins everybody including staff members walk/run for 10 minutes. The children love it and they come into class energised and ready to learn. Elaine Whyllie, head teacher of St. Ninians Primary School in Scotland, introduced this daily morning activity when she noticed how unfit the children in her school were. After one month she noticed that they were learning better in school and parents noticed that their children were sleeping better at night. It has also managed to reduce levels of obesity in her school and was credited this year in the Pride of Britain Awards as Teacher of the year.
